About Me

Welcome to my blog!  My name is Kristen K., and my life has been one non-stop adventure since I started running back in 2012.  I wasn’t ever active – in fact, I used to try anything to get out of running the mile in gym class.  But in 2012 I made a super scary, super secret goal to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon someday, and my life changed forever.  I’ll never forget the day I ran my first mile nonstop – and from there I ran lots of 5ks, 5 milers, and 10ks until February 2014 when I made my half marathon dreams come true in Disney World!

My husband and I had an even bigger dream though – to move from Philadelphia to Anchorage, AK.  We made the big move in April 2014 and we’re completely in love with our new home.  Once we got here I kept on running, but I added in lots of hiking, cycling, skiing, camping, and kayaking too.  I love being outdoors and trying new things, and this is the perfect place to do it!

Living in Alaska is different than living in the Lower 48, and I’m excited to share all of my crazy adventures with you!  Get ready to read about my attempts to change from a city girl into an outdoorsy woman in the Last Frontier.

  1. Thanks for following us at Alaskagraphy!

Krystin here, I too am a Krystin K. (K = Kay, my middle name that my mom only used when she was really mad at me!). I started running a few years ago and completed a half marathon in Kenai and have done a half in Anchorage, and the half in Cordova three years in a row. If you are looking for some great races in the Last Frontier, let us know and we can point you to the best (hint: Cordova).

Also, love your clear-day picture of Denali! It is so rare to see the mountain in the summer!

  2. Haha no way! The K in Kristen K. stands for my last name (which is still pretty new to me) but I’m excited to meet another Kristen/Krystin K! I actually went to Alaska in June for my honeymoon which is where I took the header picture of Denali. We were at the park for 2 days, and on the second day the mountain stayed out alllllll day long. All of the park rangers and shuttle drivers were in shock. It was incredible! On that note, my husband and I are currently in the process of moving up there next May! We’re going to look in Anchorage where there’s the best chance of me finding a job (he already has a job working from home). This decision has been a long time coming but it’s so tough planning it from so far away so if you have any advice let me know! I loved finding your blog and realizing that I can still keep running and doing things outdoors in the winter since everyone down here believes that you can’t do anything outside in the winter in Alaska 🙂 Thanks for commenting!

  3. Hi Kristen, Amber, from Eats and Exercise stopping by to check out your AWESOME blog! I always admire runners, especially long distance ones! That is something my body simply does not enjoy physically nor do I mentally, but I am in awe of others who can do it! SO kudos to you Mrs. K, and I love peanut butter and chocolate as well!

  4. I have always wanted to run the Disney runs! It looks so fun and cute haha! Also had to mention HUGE peanut butter and chocolate fan haha I’m sure you get this a lot though since it is such an awesome combination!

  5. Kristen,
My husband and I are early in a three month sabbatical trip to Alaska. We just reached Tok, and I googled running in Tok to see if I could find a fun route. I came across your blog and just spent the last hour laughing and soaking up your great energy and ideas for our trip. Great work and thanks for the tips.

  7. OMG thank you so much for posting workouts! I was so bored with my old routine! I really appreciate what you do here. I would love your feedback on our blog and activewear line. I think it would resonate with you. Keep up the good work! ❤

  8. Hi Kristen!

Great page! Your posts are so inspiring! I am also staying in Alaska! 🙂

You, along with many travelers could utilize our new and upcoming app, POI. It’s for the travelers and the locals to post their points of interest!

I’d like to start a movement. To inspire people to live and see more of the world. POI’s purpose is to create a community and world awareness -where the focus is the world’s point’s of interest. It becomes a shared goal to explore and exploit the world’s POI!

I’d appreciate to hear your feedback. Please send me your email address, if you’d like to be included in our mailing list! This will inform you POI’s release date and updates!

    Let me know your thoughts!

    Thanks,
    The POI Movement

  9. Yay! I’ve finally stopped by your blog! I was looking at one of the Link Loves today on SPA and saw your 2016 Goal post (which I’ll get back to, also). Oh. My. God. I just have to first say, that I am uber, uber jealous of how you just up and moved to Alaska! It’s so cool! There are a few places I’d really love to live (even if only temporary, or maybe temporary if only to live a few different ones). Alaska seems like it would be cool. I also really like Utah and Maine (been to Maine, not Utah though). My parents and family would kill me if I ever moved to another state other than Jersey, though :(. So what can you do. Family is family. One day, though, I’ll definitely at least visit Alaska. And I have a feeling I am really going to enjoy reading your blog!
